Welcome to Hermit Crab Adoption

Are you ready to welcome a new member into your family? At Land Hermit Crab Edu Center, we are dedicated to finding loving homes for hermit crabs in need. Our adoption process is designed to ensure that both the hermit crab and the adoptive family are a perfect match.

How does the adoption process work?

To gain approval, adherence to a minimum standard of care is necessary.

Requirements for housing include an aquarium with appropriate dimensions, a reliable source of heat (UTH heat mat on the back above the substrate), and a substrate of natural play sand/Eco Earth mix (5 parts play sand to 1 part coco fiber mixed) with at least 6-10 inch or 3 times the depth of your largest hermit crab among other essentials.

A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is mandatory. Forget Medium, Large crabs should have a minimum of 10 gallons per crab. Jumbo hermit crabs need at least 15 gallons per crab.

We are committed to assisting you in any areas that do not meet these standards to facilitate your approval process. Adopters must be at least 18 years old.

What are the requirements for adopting a hermit crab?

We require all potential adoptive families to undergo a screening process to ensure that they have the necessary knowledge and resources to provide a loving and nurturing environment for their new hermit crab. A form must be filled out. Shortly after filling out the form, you will receive an email with a few questions. Once done, please return the email, including photos of your current tank setup. After we receive your application, the team will carefully review your application and get back to you.
